CATCH AND RELEASE IS THE WAY OF THE FUTURE

Calaveras Bass Anglers

July 5, 2000

MEDIA RELEASE

To whom it may concern:

On July 9, 2000 the Calaveras Bass Anglers will plant 3200 Florida Strain Largemouth Bass. The plant will occur at the Glory Hole Ramp on New Melones Lake. We will gather at Glory Hole Store, at the intersection of Highway 49 and Glory Hole Road, approximately 2 miles south of Angels Camp, at 11:00 AM. Calaveras Bass Angler boats will be used to transport the fingerling fish to the planting area on the lake.

A media transport boat will be available for a ride to the planting area.

This plant is hoped to be the first of many over the next few years. All monies used to purchase the fish were donated by local businesses and individuals.

The purpose of the plant is to work on improving the genetics of the northern strain bass now in the lake. It is also hoped that overall size of bass in the lake will improve. California as a whole, is breaking National records every year for the size and quality of Bass in the state. Bass fishing is a major industry bringing substantial dollars into the communities who host any of the large tournaments each year. All these tournaments promote and require, catch and release. The club is very hopeful that some of the major tournaments will be drawn to the area by the natural beauty of the lake and the improved strains of catchable bass.
